Happy New Year!
I would like to speak to you about an humanitarian action.
Last October four midwifes from University of Caen and a man went to Niger in order to rehabilitate a maternity hospital. They just obtained their diploma on June and they decided before beginning to work to help poor people. So they studied their project during long months and they left Paris on October 18th.
When they arrived in Niger they had a bad surprise, there already was a maternity hospital but more precarious than they hopped! They hadn't any choice, they didn't have drinkable water, they didn't have water! The women decided to build a septic tank. The midwifes had to dig and set up walls. But the mean problem was Nigerian hadn't bricks. They had to make bricks with clay mineral.
Finally the maternity hospital has now a septic tank and as a consequence drinkable water!
Congratulations misses!
In fact the women didn't practise any childbirth. The African women work in the cultures so they concepted babies at choosen moment. On October, November, they didn't have babies. The more privilegious moment is February. The French misses made prevention, they told to women they have to take care of themselves, take care of little child who didn't eat enough....
One day during their trip they examine children in a town, any doctor wasn't come for more 5years so the midwifes examinated more 150 children in ONE day!
It was an enormous experience, very hard, they suffer of the heat, the hunger, they just had milled mush, they didn't eat meat for Two months.
They told me they can understand now what means "poverty, hunger, badhealth, misery".
They were welkommed like princesses, parties were organised for them.
